If there's one item that I can never have too many of in my wardrobe, it's white shirts. I love them. They're easy to wear (although not to iron, I'll admit that now - invest in a steamer folks), they look chic without having to try too hard and they go with everything.
You name it... With jeans? A white shirt goes. With a floral midi skirt? A white shirt goes. On top of a bikini? A WHITE SHIRT GOES! There literally is no end to the outfits you can create with a white shirt and there are countless styles of white shirt from which you can select your favourite.
Like I said I have a few of these in my wardrobe so I thought it would be the perfect time of year to do a round up of my favourites and suggest some of the best currently up for grabs which you can add to yours.

The Classic fitted Button down
It's the style that probably popped into your head when you read the title of this post, the style so often associated with office attire or our school days with unflatteringly coloured ties, but a well fitted, classic, crisp white shirt is so much more than all of that. It's a symbol of style that projects power and attitude, it says "I've got my sh*t together and I mean business" and like I pointed out earlier, because you'll need one, "I'm so organised that I've even got time to iron this bad boy before wearing it!" Pair with tailored trousers and heels for a chic workwear look, or with fitted jeans and a slip on mule for something a little more relaxed, a classic white fitted button down is an essential in your Summer wardrobe.
The Added detail
There is no written ruling that white shirts need to be boring. Just like any other item in your wardrobe, your white shirts can too be jazzed up. My personal favourite is the added detailing of some broidery anglaise! Think of the intricate detailing of your Gran's best table cloth, but stylish and it can be added in all forms; all over the shirt, only on the sleeves or in simple little add ons. In these images I'm wearing my new favourite for this season; a Mango's finest, simple white shirt, with the delicate addition of a broidery anglaise collar. Super feminine and super cute. Your choice of detailing can be anything from an embroidered logo, your initials, mismatched hems, a Peterpan collar, lace and texture, a belt - the list goes on!
The oversized boyfriend shirt
If you didn't picture the fitted white button down as previously mentioned when reading the title of this post, then it's likely that you pictured your dad or boyfriend in a baggy white shirt - a style we females have now stolen to be very much our own. Often depicted very differently from the office based, straight cut, fitted shirt, the oversized boyfriend shirt is what we see the girl in the movie picking up off the floor on "the morning after the night before" with her perfectly groomed bed head and panda eye free face, thrown on to complete her effortlessly chic look. Realistic, I know. But the oversized boyfriend shirt has become the sexy style (I cringed when I typed that too) of the shirt range, its relaxed and carefree and doesn't need ironed as much, as the addition of a crease or too only adds to the coolness of this style. Worn with little denim shorts and gladiator sandals it gives petite figures more volume, and worn with edgy baggy jeans it can hide a multitude of sins for the more curvaceous amongst us.
The power puffed sleeve
This Summer I am all about the puff sleeve. Yes, I could have added this into the "added detail" section, but in my opinion it deserves its own because if there's one style from this list that you might consider adding to your own collection, it should be one of these! It seems like everywhere you look brands have added the puff sleeve on to each and every product in their range; jumpsuits, dresses and blazers, but the puff sleeve addition to a white shirt is far less fad like. Adding even more oomph to an already powerful style, the puffed sleeve - whether it be long or short - brings even more definition to your look and an extra helping of girl boss attitude. All key things to consider when getting dressed in the morning, if you ask me!
