It might be a general assumption that Cashmere and Merino scarves are just for snuggling up in during the Winter months, but Johnstons of Elgin’s SS20 collection demonstrates just how wrong this assumption can be. Subtle colourways and innovative fabric mixes make this collection perfect for Spring dressing and keeping out the cold of a Summer evening breeze. Living right on the coast provided the perfect backdrop to showcase four ways to wear some of my favourite pieces from the collection.

Look 1. The Lightweight Border Stripe Merino Scarf
The ultimate union of cosy and chic, this Extra Fine Merino Wool Border Stripe Scarf is large enough to keep you warm without being too bulky. Its striped pastel design sits comfortably in my not too colourful wardrobe and wears perfectly with a casual pair of jeans and the dreamiest ecru chunky Cashmere knits. Style with some comfortable sandals and you’re ready for a sunset stroll along your local beach.
Look 2. The Oversized Classic Cashmere Scarf
If you’ve read my post on my top wardrobe must have pieces (I’ll link it here if not) then you’ll know that I mention my love for an oversized, wrap-around, scarf. If you don’t already have one of these in your wardrobe then seriously, invest in one now! Johnstons of Elgin’s Oversized Classic Cashmere Scarf is the crème de la crème when it comes to this style and with their extensive range of colour options, there is one to suit everybody. I, unsurprisingly, opted for a classic camel shade in this scarf, which matches my endless supply of neutral knitwear like a dream. Throw it over your shoulders, with a lightweight summer dress for a more dressed up vibe or with a complimenting neutral shorts and sweater combo and trainers for a more relaxed feel.
Look 3. The Abstract Print Merino Square
Now this is where things get really interesting! This season Johnstons of Elgin’s designers have continued to grow on their experimentation with print designs. The Abstract Print Merino Square is a limited-edition piece which draws inspiration from early 1930s cubist art, with its 100% Extra Fine Merino wool base being so soft and lightweight, you hardly feel like you’re even wearing a scarf! Again, the pastel colours work well in a muted wardrobe so, my styling suggestion… Keep it simple. Let the scarf be the main statement of this look by pairing it with a tonal outfit and minimal accessories.
Look 4. The Trio Stripe Merino Square
There is something about a neck square that just makes it the epitome of style to me. It might be the image that comes into my head when I think of one; the Marilyn type female of yester-years, cruising around some exotic sun-soaked destination, with her handsome man in their top down convertible. It’s just so chic! This Trio Striped Merino Square is as versatile as it is chic, wearable as a neck square, head square, cross and loop… it does the lot! I’ve paired it with a short sleeved cashmere jumper, part of the Johnstons twinset – another oh so chic style which is definitely making its come back, and cream tailored trousers, making for the perfect modern-day Marilyn look.
I'd love to hear your favourite look, and favourite pieces from the new Johnstons of Elgin collection. Let me know in the comments!
