Life as an over-aiming perfectionist isn’t easy. You’re never ready…. The things you create could always be better… and before you know it, it’s five years later, a handful of new social channels exist and with those come countless other individuals who all have something to say, opinions to share and advice to give. So here we are, 5+ years on from when I originally thought it might be fun to have my own little space on the internet to document my thoughts, about ten years late to the party, and in the midst of a global pandemic might I add, and I’ve finally realised that life is too short and I’m out of excuses as why not to give it a go.
So why start a blog now? You might ask.
Well for me, it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but never quite being able to believe in myself enough, or to put my thoughts of what other people might think to one side, I’ve never been able to bring myself to actually do something about it. But recently I’ve had time to think about the bigger picture; the things that bring me joy, the people that I care about, and who care about me in return, and ultimately what makes for a happy life, one without ‘what if’s’, ’could have’s’ and ‘so and so will say this or that’.
I find joy in clothes; wearing them, styling them, ordering them and receiving them (my close friends and boyfriend my also add returning them into this list too), and there’s no shame in that. Some people appreciate fine works of art, I appreciate a well-fitted pair of trousers or intricately designed blouse. Clothes are my sunflowers (*art joke*).
I do however also appreciate that some people do not find joy in clothes and that’s OK too. For some, it might be that they can’t get their head around the ways in which you can put an outfit together, some might dread the arrival of a wedding or event invitation due to the fact that they’ll now need to find an outfit! I look forward to such times, and I’m hoping that I can share some of my thoughts and ideas to help others get a little more joy out of their clothes too. You might be reading this thinking that you love clothes too, which is ideal really, hopefully you too will find some new ideas from this or even just the confidence to try out a new style you’ve been eyeing up online.
I know that we’re all living in a busy world, and with technological advances everything changes in the click of a button. We’re all looking for ways in which we can consume information quicker and more conveniently - hence the rise in the amount of video content we now watch daily. But I do believe that there is still a place for long-form content, written and editorial work that takes just a little bit more time to invest in and I hope that after the craziness of this pandemic begins to cease, people will remember the slower paced way of life we’ve been living and begin living it as a choice. Taking more time for themselves, reading a blog in the bath, baking banana bread because you love it or making jigsaw puzzles over a glass of wine – simply, appreciating the little things that make life so great.
At one time, I can have so many thoughts circling inside my head that I need somewhere to document them. Yes, clothing and fashion will be the main topic of discussion, but alongside it I plan to share travel tips, beauty bits and the odd life and advice piece here and there too.
So why start a blog now? Because I want to.
What brings you joy? And let me know in the comments if there is anything in particular you'd like to see here on the blog!
